My Car Was Caught In The Recent Hail Storm…Now What?

I have compiled the most frequently asked questions by my clients relating to hail damage:

Q: I have never had hail damage to a car, what do I do now?

A: Call  your insurance company listed on your proof of insurance card and file a claim. Make sure you write down the name of everyone you spoke to, their title and phone number with extension. Most importantly, write down your CLAIM NUMBER, you should be given this while on the phone with them or at least within 24 hours of calling.

Q: I have my claim number now what?

A: Call a reputable local body shop you trust, if you don’t have one in mind use online resources such as the BBB, Google Reviews, Angie’s List etc. to check reviews from others.

Q: I see tents setup in my neighborhood for hail repair, what is the difference between them and a body shop?

A: These are what the industry refers to as storm chasers, they travel the country and in most cases will not be around to warranty any work they have done. Central Body offers a lifetime warranty with our repairs.

Q: Should I deposit the insurance check that the claims department gave me?

A: In most cases it would be better to take a copy of the insurance estimate and the check to a body shop and let them deal with the insurance company’s claims department to make sure they have included everything. Often times the insurance company’s estimate will fall well short of the amount that it will take to repair your vehicle back to pre-storm damage condition. Some have been know to pay less than 50% hoping you will cash the check and not repair your vehicle. We negotiate the proper amount needed to repair your vehicle and take the stress out of the repair process for our clients.

Q: I just received a check for a large amount and was hoping to save my deductible or keep some of the money, can you help me with that?

A: Covering your deductible would not only mean that we compromise quality but also is illegal and not something that a reputable shop would engage in.

Q: My insurance company gave me a list of repair shops to choose from, do I have to go to a shop on the list and if not why shouldn’t I?

A: It is your right to choose the shop of your choice. The shops on the list have entered into what is commonly referred to as a direct repair program or D.R.P. In many cases they have lowered their labor rates and work in the best interest of the insurance company. We however, work for our clients and represent their best interests.
